Everything You Need To Know About iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone Pro Max
Overview:
Earlier this week, amid much hype and anticipation, tech
giant Apple unveiled their brand new iPhone 11 series by introducing three new
iPhones: iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max 11 along with a new iPad series 5
and iOS 13.
iPhone11
Making waves with a dual 12 MP-camera system, haptic
touch screen, a powerful A13 bionic chip (where the CPU alone has a capacity of
1 trillion operations per second) and touted as being the cheapest phone in the
recently launched series, the iPhone 11 will certainly capture your attention
with its sleek design and improved features. The new rear dual camera lets you
take high-quality photos and sharp videosfrom wide and ultra-wide angles to
help you capture what is happening outside the frame. Shooting in low light is
also made much easier as natural colors and a brighter contrast are added
without requiring flash, as the smart HDRadds highlights, shadows and
skin-tones to pictures.
Additionally, the iPhone 11 lets your Face ID unlock the
phone, which the makers claim as the most secure facial authentication in a
smartphone.Despite being packed with an array of complex hardware and software,
the iPhone 11 battery claims to last all-day long, where you can even recharge
in less time with its fast-charge capability.
Priced at INR 64,900 MRP, the iPhone 11 is set to be
launched on September 27 inIndia.
iPhone
11 Pro
Staying true to its high-quality camera standard, Apple
launched its 5.8 inch sized iPhone 11 Pro with a revolutionary triple-12 MP camera
system that steals the show. With a long battery life, a super powerful A13
Bionic custom-built chip and a Super Retina XDR display, this smartphone pushes
the envelope. The first of its kind triple-camera system consists of
ultra-wide, wide and telephoto camera to capture up to four times the normal
scene and gives you a much larger frame also facilitated by an audio zoom. The
night mode uses an intelligent software and A13 Bionic to provide more detail
in images, along with superior quality. A new feature named QuickTake enables
you to take both photos and capture videos without actually switching modes, by
just placing your finger on the shutter when you want to record something.
Similarly, you can even click slow-motion selfie videos and the camera even
automatically zooms out when you rotate your iPhone. The face ID is used to
unlock this phone as well. The only negative is that it has a starting capacity
of 64GB, when it should be twice that.
With prices starting at INR 99,900 MRP, the iPhone 11 Pro
is set to be available in India on September 27.
iPhone 11 Pro Max
Technically speaking, the
iPhone 11 Pro Max is pretty much similar to the iPhone 11 Pro, but with a
larger screen and a longer lasting battery. The 6.5-inch screen lets you witness
much more at once. The super powerful A13 Bionic 3rd generation chip
and the best battery out of the iPhone 11 lineup is what sets the iPhone 11 Pro
Max.
The iPhone 11
Pro Max starts at a price of INR 1,09,900 MRP.
iOS 13
features
Apple claims that they have designed the iOS
13 is even faster than its predecessor iOS 12, and also aims to give your phone
an all new look. According to the makers, the dark mode gives the phone an
overall dramatic look so that every element on the screen is seamlessly easier
on your eyes. You can also change the intensity of light in the portrait mode
and comes equipped with new tools to fine-tune your images. As far as privacy
and security is concerned, a new feature named the HomeKit Secure Video rolled
out, which introduced camera storage that is specifically designed for security
and privacy. The Apple personal assistant Siri has more shortcuts, enables
audio sharing with AirPods and will now also read incoming messages aloud, so
that the user does not have to pick up the iPhone to read the messages. The all
new reminders app will help you create reminders with smart lists and much
more.Another feature known as the CarPlay Dashboard helps in giving a
simplified view of the road you are travelling. There are also Augmented
Reality apps that place virtual objects to help you create.
New
technologies to look out for in the iPhone 11 lineup
What really sets apart the iPhone 11 series
is the introduction of the UWB(Ultra wide band) positioning technology which
pinpoints the location of nearby objects. An Apple designed chip U1 enables this
technology in these smartphones. The UWB is uniquely suitable for real-time
locating systems and the iPhone is the first and only major phone that supports
this.
The UWB can determine an object’s location
with 30cm accuracy. Data up to 8mbps can be transferred which is much faster than
Bluetooth.A “time of flight” mechanism is also used not only tells the
direction of the object, but also tells how far away it is. The UWB passes
safely through a human’s body and is expected to replace Bluetooth LE and even
RFID in the near future.
From the look of it, Apple certainly has big
plans for the U1 chip and its UWB technology and even fondly calls the U1 chip
its “Living room scale GPS”. For instance, the U1 chip enables you to “AirDrop”
a file in a specific direction, just by pointing your phone in the direction of
the person you want to Airdrop to, and that person’s name will appear first on
the list of your phone. Apparently, this is just the beginning of what Apple is
planning as far as the UWB technology is concerned. They may come up with a lot
of fascinating features related to it; we can only cross our fingers for now.
Another cool technology incorporated by Apple
in the iPhone11 lineup is the Augmented Reality (AR), which the makers, will
change the way you work, learn, play and connect with almost everything around
you. In simple terms, AR is result of using technology to digitally add
information – sound, images and text – on the world we see. If you are a movie
buff, then picture Iron Man’s style of interactivity. That right there is
augmented reality. Sources say Apple already has 1,000 engineers in Israel
working on AR.Click here to see how Augmented
Reality looks.
Additionally, Apple has also made a provision
available to iOS devices where you can load the official landing page for the
iPhone 11 Pro and click on the “See iPhone 11 Pro in AR”, which will enable you
to manipulate the iPhone 11 Pro on the screen. You can spin it around to see
the back and front the iPhone Pro. You can also turn it on its head to see the
bottom, top and even the sides. After finding the right position for your
phone, you can turn on the AR mode and it will show the iPhone 11 Pro presented
digitally in the real world. This is a good way for potential buyer to determine
how the phone will look in the real world and will also give them an idea of
its size. The iPhone 11 Pro AR is shown in the image given below.
Apple has also
branched out to machine learning and claimed to have modified the hardware to
offer the world’s best machine learning platforms on mobiles. They have also
used machine learning in the iPhone 11 series phone to process high-quality
images, while the chip’s speed enables it to shoot 4K video at 60fps along with
HDR. To achieve this, Apple has used a technology called ‘Deep Fusion’ which
merges images from all the three lenses and then run a neural network in the
background to build pictures pixel-by-pixel and maintains high quality. The
neural network has been built to handle matrix calculations, which is a type of
algebra used by neural networks, and is hence 20% faster than the A12 chip.
iPhone
11 Pro vs iPhone 11 Pro Max
Now that both the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11
Pro Max are set to hit the market, a huge dilemma arises as to which model to
buy. On one hand, there is the iPhone 11 Pro which lives up to its ‘pro’ name,
by being perfectly sized with a long lasting battery. On the other hand, we
have the iPhone 11 Pro Max which is rolled out for people who enjoy having
bigger screens and the longest lasting battery in the iPhone 11 line-up.
Technically speaking, both these models are pretty much the same thing, with an
exception in the screen size and the battery life.
The iPhone 11 Pro has a screen size of 5.8
inches, as opposed to the iPhone 11 Pro Max with a screen size of 6.5 inches.
Both the phones come in the same starting storage capacity of 64Gb, which is
rather a shame, as the starting capacity was expected to be twice that. Both of
them come equipped with triple lens and audio zoom, have the same Dolby Atmos
quality and both support the face ID unlocking feature as well. The displays
though, vary slightly, as despite having Super Retina XDR displays, the Pro has
2436‑by‑1125-pixel resolution at
458 ppi, whereas the Pro Max has 2688‑by‑1242-pixel resolution at 458 ppi.
So on a whole,
we can say that the iPhone 11 Pro is suitable for those who find using smartphones
easier to use with one hand and the iPhone
11 Pro Max suits those who like having larger displays and do not find
the opportunity to charge their phones often. Both come at different prices
too, with the iPhone 11 Pro
starting at INR 99,900 and the iPhone
11 Pro Max starting at INR. 1,09,900.
Is it
worth upgrading to iPhone 11?
With all the hype built around the new iPhone
11 lineup, the persisting question still eats at the brains of the ones who got
their brand new iPhone XS last year: Is the upgrade worth it?To break it down
to you, we shall compare the new iPhone 11 Pro with last year’s iPhone XS.
The iPhone 11 Pro has a battery life that
lasts upto 18 hours on video playback, whereas the iPhone XS only lasts up to 14hours.
The iPhone 11 Pro has triple 12 MP wide, ultra wide and telephoto cameras with
night mode and captures 4K video recording up to 50 fps, whereas the iPhone XS
has dual 12 MP wide and telephoto camera with 1080p HD video recording upto 60
fps. The processing powers are also
different as the 11 Pro is run by an A13 bionic chip, whereas the XS is run by
an A12 bionic chip. An all new iOS 13 is used by the iPhone 11 Pro, whereas its
immediate predecessor, the iPhone XS uses iOS 12.The 3D touch is mostly
replaced by the Haptic touch in the iPhone 11 series. Now, haptic touch, simply
put, is a touch feedback when the user interacts with the device. Sensations
like taps, vibrations and even feeling sensations like pressing and releasing
when you tap an icon or feature/setting on your iPhone is nothing but haptics.
So yes, the new series of iPhone 11 comes equipped with haptics as well.
What if you are an Android user? Is it worth
upgrading to an iPhone 11? Well, Apple has always faced a stiff competition
from its Android counterparts like Samsung. When most Korean and Chinese phone manufacturers
have already started rolling out 5G enabled phones, Apple still has not
introduced this feature in their latest update. If you are on a lookout for a
phone that has this feature embedded in it, then the iPhone 11 line-up is not
an option for you. Speaking about the camera quality, Samsung’s latest releases
-- Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 – both are equipped with 12 MP cameras just
like Apple’s latest release. The same goes for Google’s latest Pixel 3 XL which
has a camera quality of 12.2 MP. The last three also comes in comparatively
cheaper prices than the iPhone 11 series phones.
From an environmental conservation point of
view, switching to new phones every year is not really a good thing for the Earth.
Studies show that greenhouses gases are pumped into the atmosphere during the
mining and manufacturing process of these phones. Although, Apple claims to use
recycled products during its manufacturing, it is best to break the habit of
upgrading to a new handset each year. Perhaps a viable solution to this problem
will be if the tech firms allowed us to upgrade our old phones, by giving a
provision to add new features to existing devices, other than making us buy an
entirely new handset.
From the above analysis, one can easily
conclude that upgrading to iPhone 11 mainly depends on whether one cares about
better cameras and improved battery life.
Conclusion
Apple has always tried to revolutionize the
tech industry ranging from their Macintosh computers to the iPods and to the
iPhones.Back in the day, ardent tech lovers would wait in anticipation for
Apple’s most revered founder, Steve Jobs, to announce the line of revolutionary
new products by the company. The company is still going strong, but the sales
have slumped a bit than what used to be during Steve’s lifetime.Despite these
hurdles, Apple managed to grab eyeballs with their new iPhone 11 series, and
somewhere in the backdrop, the new Apple Watch Series 5 was also announced on
the same day.Products like a Mac with Apple made chip, MacBook series and an
iPad Pro are slated to be released in April 2020, amid much fan speculation. We
cannot say what Apple has in store for us until these products finally hit the
market.
