Expected Changes in the I.T Sector by 2020
Introduction
IT and IT enabled services (ITes)
have transformed the business world. Right now digital tools are available
specialized for each and every sector. In the current 21st century most
companies rely on information technology and competing with their rivals
without this added advantage is not even imaginable. If we are to go by reports
then IT and all its intermediate services are set to grow rapidly until the end
of 2020. If the question is what IT would look like in 2020 then the answer to
it is the same for any emerging technology. It would be extremely dependent on
the demand and supply scale.
Areas of Target
The prediction for 2019 was that IT
would significantly improve and even revolutionize three distinct sectors but
this prediction by global experts has not held true in our humble nation at
least for the first half of this year. But the one thing that is clear is that
every sector and industry without fail is funding IT and these numbers have
only increased with no plans to slow down. The current leaders as far as
statistics for most spent in the IT department are the media and retail
sectors.
The benefits of IT however are
pretty clear as it minimizes the effort required to initiate a business
proposition as well as the added benefit of making needed upgrades through new
releases and updates. Another expected change is that digitization will be more
specialized and in the case of the client or customer side it will be more
personalized. Currently, we have enough technology to personally attend each
and every customer in the online world through a process they are comfortable
with. In short agility, flexibility and time to time market which are essential
for any business becomes a whole lot more easier with the right use of
information technology. True IT leaders adapt their operating models as
business requirements change.
Evolving Business Role
There is a running rumour that the
IT department as we know it will change radically much similar to how the role
of the HR departments have now become more strategic – talent management and
workforce planning rather than work – managing pensions and payroll which was
once the focus. Future technology leaders will need to be more competent at
understanding the business. In fact, many of the roles in tomorrow’s IT
departments do not yet exist. Undoubtedly, there will always be a gap in
experts who understand both the business aspect as well as the IT section and
unfortunately this gap is only getting wider and it is believed that by 2020
our humble nation will have specialized courses and sessions with respect to
the job roles that the firm requires which is ideal for the improvement of the
sales of their product and or services.
Job Opportunities
Like mentioned above, the job roles
of what we currently define within the boundaries of IT will become obsolete
and there will exist jobs and designations that are yet to be properly defined
so predicting things that are yet to exist is the job of psychics we can only
educate on the definite skills needed, which includes:
• Complex
Problem Solving: One has to make use of analytics and data to implement
solutions
• Critical
Thinking: A must have in the current 21st century for all employees
• Creativity:
An undeniable and inexcusable trait for any business model
• People
Management: Empathizing with your peers as well as your subordinates and
superiors are a must in the current scenario
• Judgment
& Decision Making: Taking responsibility and being held accountable are
unique skills that are indispensible in the current world.
• Cognitive
Flexibility: The skill to mix and match ideas and to think outside the box must
be nurtured.
• Negotiation:
The ability to reconcile differences between people and focus on a single goal
is also extremely useful.
Conclusion
The invasion of computers demands
specific jobs to enter the market or become more important than before. With
major changes in IT almost assured, it is currently the perfect opportunity for
IT leaders to redefine their roles and seek allies outside the traditional
spheres of finance and operations. Regardless of the industry in which your
business currently competes, your strategic direction and IT stability are
indispensable for the year 2020. The
year 2021 will have its own set of challenges and demands.
